Freida Pinto: “I’m too young to be a Bond girl”

This week the Times of India talked to Freida Pinto, who the press had previously been touting as a Bond girl contender.

The new Indian actress on the Hollywood scene says that she had “no idea where that came from,” when quizzed about the Bond rumors.

“Even my LA agents were curious. But this is a Bond thing, it happens with a lot of actresses, or with those in the news. It was very flattering, I must say, and I don’t know if I would have done it. I’m too young to be a Bond girl.

“There’s not much of a role, though some of them have become iconic, and you need somebody more mature and beautiful than me.”

Mr White will not return to James Bond

Bond fans will recall that Mr. White, the silent antagonist of Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale escaped his fate by the blessing of a cut scene from the end of Quantum, just over a year ago.

Now, the actor that plays him, Danish star Jesper Christensen, has made a statement at a Berlin film festival press conference, saying two is enough, and according to the James Bond website MI6 the actor has no polite words for Bond or Craig. The British site ran the quote:

“Today, I admit that I regard [Casino Royale] and [Quantum of Solace] as really shit. All the people die in them, so two movies are enough for me.”

With the decision to save Mr White for future drama – many of us assumed that he would return in Bond 23 – the fan community are now speculating about the fate of one of the more interesting villains to grace this new era of James Bond.

The new James Bond movie will obviously proceed without him, but we wonder how much of a shock this has come to the producers of the James Bond 007 adventures and will a recast be attempted in order to wrap up the story.

Perhaps a Blofeld-like operation is needed for Mr. White?

UPDATE: Jesper Christensen explains that he was misrepresented at the Berlin Film Festival, saying “I have great respect for the people who make Bond films. They have managed to create their very own meta-universe, almost a genre in itself and a series of 23 films now. It is unique.”

Could Craig’s “Dream House” delay James Bond 23?

According to a source cited by Britain’s Mail On Sunday and subsequently picked up on the bloggin wires, Daniel Craig’s commitment to “Dream House” – a thriller with Naomi Watts – could push the production of James Bond 23 back even further.

The new James Bond movie, it is explained, is nowhere near ready to film. Where this information comes from, though, is anyones guess. Certain papers have a reputation for sensationalizing the news, and another ‘inside source’ could prove fruitless.

Nevertheless, in the name of balance, here’s the quote run by the media:

The producers have been working on the script for nearly two years and hired Sam Mendes as the director. They’re not even close to starting filming yet.

Followers of Bond23.net will know that Sam Mendes’ role in Bond 23 is fringe at best, until James Bond Producers, EON, (and their distributors… be it MGM or another waiting in the wings) are able to put the money together to finance the next step.

Press wheel out hollow rumor: Will Sam Worthington be the next James Bond?

In many fans minds Worthington would have made a suitable 007.

The Australian-trained star was short-listed when it came to casting James Bond #6, the role won by Daniel Craig for Casino Royale. But a unsubstantiated journalistic guess has spread across the film blogs like wild-fire.

Now famed as Corporal Jake Sully in James Cameron’s Avatar Worthington may well be too higher profile for the next man to don the famous Tuxedo.

From what Bond23.net can tell, there’s little evidence to suggest that the Bond filmmakers are hunting for a new start. Very little has been happening in the James Bond 23 camp right now, and from what we understand Daniel Craig is contracted for at least three films – meaning the Cheshire-born actor is set to return in Bond 23.

Along with the changing of the guard rumor, some organisations are touting Bond girl names already.

Digital Spy suggests:

Female stars being touted as new Bond girls include Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole and Slumdog Millionaire actress Freida Pinto.
