In the past the London-born superstar has joked to the press the she was interested in the Bond role, now Cinema Blend claim to have a tip from “a reliable, proven source who’s broken numerous, since confirmed stories”.

According to some estimates, the production is still on the back-burner until MGM solve financial issues that have been making recent headlines. Little has come i the way of officially-confirmed stories or releases, paving the way for a slew of rumors to hit the tabloids.

Cinema Blend, historically a widely respected source on mainstream news and rumors seem to think they’re on to something with this one. Weisz’s connection with the ‘key players’ has not gone unnoticed: “Weisz is actually friends with Daniel Craig (in fact they’re working together on the upcoming movie Dream House),” reports Josh Tyler, ”and in the past she had a personal relationship with would-be Bond 23 director Sam Mendes.”

Tyler predicts that Weisz will sign on to the production as a villianess, citing the lack of female criminal masterminds

that have appeared in the Bond universe. “Famke Janseen is fantastic as Xenia Onatopp in GoldenEye, but she’s a follower, not a criminal mastermind. Weisz would be the first woman to take on such a role in the Bond universe, and I’d say it’s about time.” Fan’s will recall that Elektra King was the ‘mastermind’ behind the oil-driven plot of The World Is Not Enough.

The ‘insider’ says: “things can change in a heartbeat and they might even try to deny what I told you but that’s what’s the brainstorming going on now.”

Fans will no doubt be skeptical of insider quotes after the repeated touting of Freida Pinto as a Bond girl by a British tabloid. The story was subsequently picked up by various blogs and mainstream news, including Yahoo.

In our experience, things can indeed change in a heartbeat, so fans would be wise not to rest assumptions (or hopes) on this early-day news.
