Bond 23 writer, John Logan talks James Bond

In an interview with Adelaide Now, screenwriter John Logan teases 007 fans about his work on the new James Bond movie, Bond 23.

“I’m deeply, deeply embedded in the world of 007,” he says. “It’s a little intimidating because when this movie comes out it will be the 50th anniversary of Dr No, so it’s a long and respected franchise.”

The Hollywoodite’s credits include Gladiator and The Aviator, and he has written for Oliver Stone and Tim Burton, 007′s director on James Bond 23 before.

Logan is in Adalaide to oversee a production of his stage play RED.

Dench reveals she starts shooting James Bond 23 in November 2011

Not long after Variety leaked the involvement of Ralph Fiennes in James Bond 23 – the new Bond film, coming November 2012, Dame Judi Dench who will be playing James Bond’s boss, M, in Bond 23, dropped a big hint: shooting on the new 007 adventure will start 12 months before release.

I am going to do the next Bond in November. I don’t know the location yet but hopefully it will be somewhere nice. I can’t tell you much more but I do enjoy playing M as she is such a strong character. I like being bossy and my grandson thinks its cool that I’m in Bond.

Dame Judi told the Daily Express that she will be back in Britain soon for the ceremonial planting of the Hever Castle Rose: “It’s a wonderful place. I have lived around here for 26 years and Hever was one of the first places we came for a picnic. It is unspoilt and quintessentially English.”

Ralph Fiennes on Broadway and in Bond 23?

The trade press, Variety, casually dropped the following paragraph into an article that covers the casting of Fiennes in Trevor Nunn’s new West End Shakespeare…

Fiennes’s movie commitments mean the run will be strictly limited. He is skedded to start filming on the Sam Mendes helmed “Bond 23″ In December. The latter is scripted by John Logan who also scripted Fiennes’s recent movie helming debut “Coriolanus.”

It is curious that such big news has made such a small splash but Variety has a good reputation for accurate reporting and insider scoops.

Fiennes was recently rumored to have a role as a James Bond villain in the new Bond movie. This coupled with December being a likely time for Bond 23 to kick off production, lends extra credentials to this rumor.

Keep your eyes peeled.

Anthony Hopkins denies rumors of James Bond 23 involvement

No. Anthony Hopkins was never offered a Bond 23 role. This is the news from the star of new psychological thriller, The Rite himself.

When asked if there was any truth to the rumour, Hopkins said “You must ask my agent because I know nothing about it.” He then leaned over to his agent who said “First I’ve heard of it too!” It appears Hopkins and agent are not regular readers of The Sun who coughed up such a rumor last week.

According to British Bond site MI6 the Welsh star was offered a role in the action-packed Tomorrow Never Dies but declined when he heard the script was still in flux despite shooting being scheduled.

James Bond 23 – Rumor Roundup

As ever, the news media can be sure to drum up a few “rumors” of Bond 23 casting in the weeks and months leading up to Bond 23.

A couple of the more humorous are collected below for you:

Anthony Hopkins Narrowly Misses Out On A Villain Role

The Sun are quoting an unspecified source that suggests the famous Welshman might have joined the cast:

“The only stumbling block seems to be the number of films he is signing up for. There is a chance the character they want him to play could become a regular feature, like Blofeld back in the day.”

Some blogs ever picked up on the Sun’s story and ran with it

A slow news day, clearly.

Sharon Stone Wants To Be A Bond Villain

“I would love to play the villain in a James Bond movie, better if with Daniel Craig” says the 52 year-old “Basic Instinct” star.

MI6 reminds us Sharon Stone was previously considered for a leading Bond girl role by MGM during the scripting stage of “The World Is Not Enough” in 1999.

Rare has been the date that 007′s Bond girls are older than the incumbent 007.
