Daniel ’007′ Craig: A Quote-a-thon

Daniel Craig, the current James Bond star, has been promoting his sci-fi western, Cowboys & Aliens this week. As a result, a number of clips, quotes and soundbites made their way into the blogosphere. We’re doing our best to keep up with these, and round many of the most interesting up below:

One of the more interesting Cowboys marketing gimmicks was to have director Jon Favreau interview his star, Craig. Inevitably Bond came up in the discussion.

[Sam Mendes] jumped feet first in to it – read every book and soaked up everything about it. I read the script the other day and I’m more excited about [Bond 23] than I was about Casino Royale, because we’ve got a classic Bond movie… plus lots of other things

With so many location rumors circulating it has sometimes been hard to keep up but just recently Daniel Craig let slip to the media that Bond 23 was bound for India. The quote Craig gave to the Telegraph (in India) when prompted for shooting information was:

We are working on the schedule for India and yes, it’s always exciting to play James Bond and this time is no different.

Earlier, Craig let everyone know he was “gagging” to get started on Bond 23 and has said a number of times now how excited by the script and by Sam Mendes’ direction he is. One of the earliest promos for Cowboys was an interview with Extra:

We’ve got a script, it’s fantastic and we start shooting October… November this year for a November release next year,” Craig said. “I’m really gagging to go. I’ve had a break now, and things have come together with the timing of it.

There were also some rumors flying about that he had been ordered to ‘bulk up’ for Bond 23 after looking wiry in the Western, on this matter, the James Bond star simply said:

I don’t have to bulk up much. I’m just going to get fit.

Daniel Craig not a fan of Connery or Brosnan’s Bonds?

In a teaser for an in-depth interview with Daniel Craig, Entertainment Weekly, reveal an out of context quote about Craig’s Bond favourites.

“I never liked Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan much,” he muttered, almost under his breath

Before flying into fits of rage, this page is designed to tease and sell magazines. These are the same people that published a “Goodbye Mr Bond” cover in August last year.

Sam Mendes a ‘huge fan’ of Bond says Craig

In a press junket for Cowboys & Aliens the James Bond 007 actor was inevitably quizzed by IGN movies about the forthcoming 007 adventure.

Not only has he told the press that he is ‘gagging’ to get started but he might have let slip that Moneypenny is returning. Some commentators such as those at Comic Book Movie are taking an open ended question about the return to more traditional elements, Moneypenny included and Daniel Craig’s unwillingness to deny that fact as indication that the famous secretary will be back. The British tabloids were keen to predict Naomie Harris would play Miss Moneypenny.

What Craig actually told the media was:

You’ll just have to wait and see. Sam is a huge Bond fan, he understands the history of it, he understands what Bond is about. The script is incredible, we’re in good shape.

Mendes has kept quite about his fandom and his artistic vision for James Bond to date, but that may have just been ousted by Bond himself.

Naomie Harris to play Miss Moneypenny – UK tabloid predictions

According to the Daily Mail, Harris is all but signed up to play M’s secretary in the new James Bond film.

Miss Moneypenny, you will remember, has been absent from the Craig era thus far.

The British paper describes Naomie Harris as in the “final stages of negotiations” to be Hollywood’s most famous secretary.

They also predict that 007 baddy casting is locked up with Ralph Finnes and Javier Bardem taking roles in James Bond 23.

If the girl is really in the running for Miss Moneypenny then the headline “Licence to Thrill” seems inacurate as fans know that Moneypenny’s relationship with the thrilling James Bond is always close… but no cigar.

Daniel Craig f***ing excited to work with Mendes again on Bond 23

Esquire conducted a sit-down interview with three time Bond star Daniel Craig in which he chatted about his Bond image and his excitement to be working with Sam Mendes.

The actor/director combo last worked together on the gritty Road To Perdition.

Sam’s gonna do it, Sam Mendes, and I’m really fucking really lookin’ forward to the fact that he’s gonna do it,” he says, snapping to. Mendes directed him in the gloomy thriller Road to Perdition in 2002. Craig tricks out a little smirk then. A concession, a comfort maybe.

“This has become my way, it’s as simple as that,” he says. “I mean, since I’ve just become James Bond. And I think, you know, that means being something that people feel they own. And all of the sudden I’m getting magazine covers, when I got nothing for ten years before that. I say it’s just pure luck. And doing covers, people interviewing me, and they want to know everything and I’m going, I’m not gonna fucking tell you!”

Craig settles once more into the clutch of his muscular recline. “Well, you know,” he says, sliding the Ray-Bans from his nose. “I mean this is actually very nice. We can talk about anything else, and hopefully it can be made interesting.”

Judi Dench has her hands on the Bond 23 script – but keeps mum

The Dame and 6 time “M” has received her copy of the yet-to-be-titled James Bond 23 script.

At a recent Czech film festival, Judi Dench told the presses:

I’m not allowed [to tell you anything about the Bond film]. You take a little vow. When the script was delivered to me, it was delivered by a man completely dressed in black. He just gave me the script and left. It’s very secretive.

Encouraging news that the production team has begun to distribute the script to it’s key cast.
