Severine will be a ‘Bond lady’, not a ‘Bond girl’

The French actress Bérénice Marlohe spoke to the Daily Mail to discuss her perceptions of the Bond girl stereotype.

She insisted in the interview that she would not be a good Bond girl, and she sees herself as Bond woman:

“I definitely see myself more as a Bond Lady than a Bond Girl,’ she adds. ‘The idea of a Bond Girl can be very confusing. As an actress, I know it can be a trap because you’re not sure what people expect. I think it’s quickly changing direction now. You’re more at liberty to develop a real character rather than something abstract. There is more scope now within the Bond movies to create a strong, independent woman.”

Skyfall is Marlohe’s first English language film and she had to work hard to get herself an audition:

“When I heard there were going to be auditions in Paris I switched on my computer and tried to get contact details for anyone involved in this project – emails, phone numbers, whatever I could get hold of. I managed to track down Sam Mendes’s agent but nothing came of that. Then I met Debbie McWilliams, the casting director, which led me to Sam and the producers, then finally to Daniel Craig.”

James Bond 23 is “Skyfall”

After months of speculation almost all of the most salient details pertaining to James Bond 23 – now known as Skyfall – have been revealed.

Production has started on James Bond 23 as of 3rd of November 2011. The regular press conference that announces the start of filming was moved from its ‘spiritual’ home of Pinewood to central London in order that the cast and crew be on hand for shooting in London that very day. We understand Pinewood is expecting the lead cast on the 7th of November 2011.

Speaking of cast, almost all of the rumors we’ve been taking seriously these last few weeks have come to fruition. As such, the cast is confirmed to include:

  • Javier Bardem
  • Ralph Fiennes
  • Naomie Harris
  • Berenice Marlohe
  • Ben Wishaw
  • Albert Finney

Many familiar faces will be returning to take their positions behind the camera. Dennis Gassner of Quantum of Solace production design fame will be returning along with Chris Corbould, Gary Powell and Debbie McWilliams – whose job, as casting director, has been underway for months.

Although Tariq Anwar ‘confirmed’ his involvement in Bond 23 earlier in the year, Stuart Baird will edit Skyfall.

The press conference also confirmed a number of locations, including Scotland, Istanbul and Shanhai – which was only recently rumored as a location of substance.

At the same time as launching the film, Sony pictures opened up an official James Bond fan page on Facebook and claimed the username @007 on Twitter.

A short synopsis is now available: “In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.”

British press assert that Helen McCrory has been cast in James Bond 23

According to the usually suspect Daily Mail, Helen McCrory has won a role in James Bond 23. British born McCrory is famed for playing Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter saga as well as portraying Cherie Blair in two Peter Morgan penned dramas: The Queen and The Special Relationship.

In the same article, journalist Baz Bamigboye asserts that French star Berenice Marlohe is Bond’s latest lady friend after screen-testing at Pinewood with Sam Mendes. Perhaps this is what the Guardian meant when it suggested that 007 was ‘filming’ at Pinewood already? Marlohe was rumored to have won the part back in September – what said part involves it remains to be seen.

Ben Wishaw‘s name continues to be associated with the production, although it is unclear what role he might be lined up for.

According to a quick tip from Twitch Film, Daniel Craig may be playing opposite this beautiful Frenchwoman in James Bond 23.

Most blogs and news sources are reporting it as rumor but Twitch are calling it “breaking news” and asserting the rumors to be true.

The young French actress has made a string of successful TV productions and is currently shooting her second feature film: Un bonheur n’arrive jamais seul.
