Daniel Craig confirms Fiennes & Bardem still contenders for Bond 23 role

Daniel Craig is gearing up for James Bond 23 and, as a result, is becoming a little more open about the casting situation.

In an interview with MTV the 007 star asserted that Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem are in the running for Bond 23 villains.

Both names have a long history of connections to the forthcoming 23rd James Bond film: Bardem admitted he was in talks in February 2011. A month later Variety leaked the news that Fiennes was performing on London’s West End for a strictly limited run so that he could be involved in Bond 23.

Could Spaniard Bardem pass himself off as a Turkish villain?

Craig has high hopes that both Hollywood icons will appear alongside the leading Brit for Bond 23.

He also offered up another praise of his director and reasserted his confidence in the Bond 23 script: “We’ve got a great script this time. I’m as excited about this script as I was about the ‘Casino Royale’ script. I think in Sam [Mendes] we’ve got the perfect director. The cast is coming together now. I can’t wait to get going on it.”

Rumors that Blofeld will be back are sparked by comment from John Logan

Co-writer on the new James Bond adventure, John Logan, have left Bond fans wondering if 007 will be facing off against his arch enemy from the 1960s: Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

According to Latino Review, it was when Logan was speaking at the BAFTA Screenwriters lecture that the scribe was asked about Blofeld by one member of the audience.

With a smile he said: ”Bond should always fight Blofeld.”

Logan also let slip that, unlike many blockbusters, the Bond 23 schedule has 2 weeks of rehearsal to accommodate.

Before Bond 23 was in production, rumors hit the media that Michael Sheen would play the arch villain. These were dispelled by the actor on a talk show in April this year.

German news sites claim Javier Bardem has confirmed Bond 23 role

According to scouts over at MI6, the Spaniard, Javier Bardem, who has been long-associated with Bond 23 has signed on to the production.

The site claims that “several” German news blogs have touted the news and predict an announcement of Bardem’s involvement shortly, should there be any weight at all to the news.

The No Country For Old Men star was first mentioned in association with James Bond 23 in January 2011 and the news came from the normally reliable source, Deadline.com.

Bardem is widely expected to play a villain or henchman.

Rumors suggest Ralph Fiennes has signed on to James Bond 23

According to fans posting on a James Bond discussion forum the British star of Schindler’s List, The Constant Gardner and the Harry Potter series has signed on to James Bond as of last week.

Here is what a user of ajb007 posted about the news:

I had a meeting with Sony Australia reps on Wednesday and they confirmed Ralph Fiennes for Bond 23 while talking about their 2011/2012 lineup. Apparently he signed last week, and Sony were most pleased with Ralph joining the film. Straight from the horses mouth so to speak

…and in a later post it was mentioned:

It was casually mentioned that he would be a villain.

If Fiennes really is cast cast, we ask whether Javier Bardem will still be involved in the series?

Ralph Fiennes in talks over James Bond role, claim tabloids

The British star Ralph Fiennes famed for The English Patient and Schindler’s List has been touted by the presses as having a connection to the 23rd James Bond film.

This time, however, the rumor spreads from the Daily Mail and uses buzzwords like “darkly complex” to describe the kind of role that Mendes apparently has in mind for Fiennes.

“It’s the first of a new generation of Bond films, and the ideas Mendes has push the film into darker territory where the characters are modern, mature and challenging,” a film executive in Los Angeles connected to the production told the paper.

The report claims the role Fiennes is in consideration for is not the same as the one as Javier Bardem is in talks for.

The Bond website MI6 explains that Mendes and Fiennes are old friends. Both worked on the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Troilus And Cressida. The play also featured Simon Russell Beale.

Emmerdale hunk Maxwell Caulfield wants to face off against Craig as James Bond villain

Emmerdale star Maxwell Caulfield wants to play a villain in the next James Bond movie.

The actor will be seen leaving his role as Mark Wylde in the New Year, after 12 months in the village.

Asked what his dream role would be, he told Inside Soap: “I wouldn’t mind going toe-to-toe with Daniel Craig as the arch-villain in the next James Bond movie.”

He added: “Those films are so cool and action-packed these days that you practically have to strap yourself into your seat.”

Maxwell also revealed that he could see himself in long-running British police drama The Bill.

He said: “My wife, Juliet [Mills], and I enjoy watching The Bill – it’s pretty dramatic. I’ve never played a British cop, so I wouldn’t mind doing that. Look at me lobbying for my next gig already!”

Although days are numbered for Emmerdale’s Mark, soap bosses are keeping details of the nature of his exit under wraps.
