Unused Kincade poster revealed

The nature of Albert Finney’s role in Skyfall was just one of the many closely guarded secrets whilst the 23rd Bond film was in production. It took months before we got our first unofficial look at Kincade, the Skyfall groundskeeper who aids 007 in his final assault against Silva.

It is quite understandable that the legendary British actor, Finney, was not a major part of the promotion. Nevertheless, artists behind the Skyfall promotional campaign prepared a poster of the fine old gentleman, which has recently been released online.

Mendes considered casting Connery in “Skyfall”

One of the early and usually unfounded rumors to circulate about Skyfall (then just “Bond 23″) was that the old Bond actors would be back for cameos. Of course, non of this eventuated… But, director Sam Mendes has recently revealed that he did consider asking Connery to cameo in the film, possibly in the role that was ultimately filled by Albert Finney.

He told the Huffington Post:

You brought back a lot of nostalgia. There’s a scene in Scotland with Albert Finney. Was there any thought of approaching Sean Connery for that role?
There was a definite discussion about that — way, way early on. But I think that’s problematic. Because, to me, it becomes too … it would take you out of the movie. Connery is Bond and he’s not going to come back as another character. It’s like, he’s been there. So, it was a very brief flirtation with that thought, but it was never going to happen, because I thought it would distract.

Obviously this wasn’t taken too seriously, as Barbara Broccoli (and if we recall correctly, Mendes has echoed this sentiment) has said, several times, that they got their ‘dream cast’ and that people they asked to take part in Skyfall were cast in the film.

If and when you see the film, let us know if you think Connery would be a good substitute for Finney?

Daniel Craig had a hand in wooing Mendes to direct “Skyfall”

In a new interview with UK’s Esquire magazine, Bond star Daniel Craig relates a funny story about how thespian turned action-adventure director of Skyfall, Sam Mende, landed the directorial duties of this film.

“It’s a very showbizzy story. I was at Hugh Jackman’s house in New York. It was a soiree – we were in a play together – and Sam [film and theatre director Sam Mendes] was there. I’d had a few too many drinks and I went, ‘How do you fancy directing a Bond?’ And he kind of looked at me, and he went, ‘Yeah!’ And it snowballed from there.”

In the same interview Craig also revealed how he gets personally, emotively involved in the production of the Bond adventures:

“Bond movies live or die on their popularity. They force you to care about what people think. And I’m involved [in the films] on a very deep level. I have it in my mind all the time…So there’s that kind of pressure, and that’s an enemy in any art form, acting especially.”
