Severine will be a ‘Bond lady’, not a ‘Bond girl’

The French actress Bérénice Marlohe spoke to the Daily Mail to discuss her perceptions of the Bond girl stereotype.

She insisted in the interview that she would not be a good Bond girl, and she sees herself as Bond woman:

I definitely see myself more as a Bond Lady than a Bond Girl,’ she adds. ‘The idea of a Bond Girl can be very confusing. As an actress, I know it can be a trap because you’re not sure what people expect. I think it’s quickly changing direction now. You’re more at liberty to develop a real character rather than something abstract. There is more scope now within the Bond movies to create a strong, independent woman.”

Skyfall is Marlohe’s first English language film and she had to work hard to get herself an audition:

“When I heard there were going to be auditions in Paris I switched on my computer and tried to get contact details for anyone involved in this project – emails, phone numbers, whatever I could get hold of. I managed to track down Sam Mendes’s agent but nothing came of that. Then I met Debbie McWilliams, the casting director, which led me to Sam and the producers, then finally to Daniel Craig.”

Ralph Fiennes speaks about his character in “Skyfall” and his personal history with Bond

The acclaimed Shakespearian actor felt he was a one-time candidate for the role of 007 himself. Ralph Fiennes admitted to the Daily Record that “There was a time in my life when [the role of James Bond] would have appealed to me. But I’m a bit on the old side now.”

Instead, Fiennes can explain that his part in the forthcoming 23rd James Bond adventure, Skyfall, will be one of a government agent. Whether he is working on the side of 007 or as an agent for another government is yet to be revealed. Fiennes is remaining tight-lipped about the details.

He did, however, open up a little about his personal history with the Ian Fleming novels: “I used to be a complete nerd about the books and the detail in them. They are fantastic. There was Fleming’s obsession with different kinds of champagne and caviar. He kind of fetishises these things.”

This hopefully puts to bed long-running rumors that Fiennes was hired to play the arch-villain Blofeld.

Ola Rapace speaks about his work on “Skyfall” to date

Although he is still tightlipped about the character he plays, Ola Rapace opened up to his local Swedish media this week.

British James Bond website MI6-HQ.com reports that the actor has had the chance to shoot weapons and speculates that Rapace will be a henchman to Javier Bardem’s unknown villain in Skyfall.

We have had great fun. Bond filming is like a playhouse, you can ride a motorcycle, fighting and shooting automatic weapons and things like that. So it’s fun and has been really good.

The actor is more at home on the set of a small TV show and marvels at the scope of the 007 production crew: “Everything is bigger than I had thought, it’s so much muscle, so much money, so many resources available anywhere. It’s crazy really.”

Naomie Harris says her character, Eve, ‘kicks ass’

Whilst promoting her new film The First Grader, Naomie Harris explained a little more about the kind of things she is doing on Bond 23, now known as Skyfall.

Eve kicks ass. I’m loving it at the moment. I am such a pacifist, I never thought I would enjoy firing guns but, in the safety of the gun range and at a target board, it’s so much fun.

Harris admitted to Adelaide Now that she was worried about the high profile role in James Bond: “I did worry about it a bit. My agent said to me: `It’s unlike anything else you have done before, just be prepared’.”

“I’m doing gyrotonics (a fluid training style that blends movements of yoga, dance, gymnastics, tai chi and swimming on a machine) twice a week and I have a yoga teacher three times a week who also takes me jogging.”

Rory Kinnear talks James Bond 23: Skyfall

As well as shooting James Bond 23, Skyfall, English actor Rory Kinnear has been involved in Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror and gave an interview to the website CultBox about his work thereon. Inevitably a little 007 showed up in the mix… here are some of Kinnear’s comments about rejoining the Bond family:

You’re currently filming the new James Bond film, Skyfall, returning as M’s Chief of Staff, Bill Tanner. How’s that going so far?

“Great, we’ve just been at Pinewood and around Waterloo and Smithfields doing some scenes with myself and Daniel [Craig] and Judi [Dench]. I go through to the beginning of February filming and I think they’re on until about April or May.”

That sounds like a fairly long shoot for you, does this mean that we see a bit more of Tanner this time around?

“Yes, Tanner gets a bit more facetime this time, [the part] is a bit more beefed-up. He’s basically performing the same role but there’s a bit more of him.”

There’s a lot of excitement surrounding the film with the 50th anniversary coming up; is that excitement present on set as well?

“I think everyone’s generally just really excited about the script and how good it is – and we’ve got Sam [Mendes] directing.

“Obviously this is now my second one so I know how Daniel and Judi work. We all seem to get on very well so it feels like I’m becoming slightly more part of the family.”

Did you expect to return to the role of Tanner after Quantum of Solace?

“No, I wasn’t contracted to do any more so I guess I knew there was a possibility but I didn’t expect it, no.”

In the books, Tanner is Bond’s best friend – would you like to see that dynamic develop onscreen?

“I don’t know, the Tanner of Quantum of Solace wasn’t really the Tanner of the books, so I guess it’s a new kind of role. He’s not the same age as Bond, as I think he is in the books, but I think in this film their relationship does develop, yes.”
