Thomas Newman strongly suggested to be “Skyfall” composer

MI6 has it on good authority that the five-time 007 composer David Arnold is not signed on to score the 23rd James Bond film, Skyfall.

Arnold, who has composed music for every Bond adventure since 1997′s Tomorrow Never Dies has the prestigious job of musical directing the 2012 Olympics in London.

In his place EON has purportedly sought out American Thomas Newman, who has worked on a number of Sam Mendes productions to date.

His credits include: American Beauty, Road to Perdition and more recently The Help and The Iron Lady.

Legendary Bond composer John Barry passed away last year – whoever fills the position has a immense task ahead of them with the standards set by both Arnold and Barry, stalwarts of 007 music.

Bond filming at Ascot train station – perhaps?

A tweet appeared recently wherein its author posted the following photo of a film crew setting up at Ascot train station. The tweeter tells told us at the time it was understood to be production of Skyfall, AKA Bond 23.

Skyfall previously shot at Ascot, doubling for an overseas location, so it was a fair assumption that the second unit was still working at the famed racecourse.

However, Daniel Craig, Michael Wilson and Sam Mendes were working elsewhere (Craig promoting his Girl With The Dragon Tattoo film in New York and Mendes overseeing his stage production of Richard III)… so the likelihood of Bond shooting at a fresh location whilst its principal cast and crew members are elsewhere seems a little suspect.

The tweeter then followed up with some other information – he says he is now told it wasn’t Bond, rather a TV show named Case Sensitive.

Whichever the case, Bond fever is certainly alive and well in the UK!

Noel Gallagher denies Skyfall title song rumors

According to a tipster who contacted Bond23.net and claims to have access to a “reputable source close to the production”, Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig are eyeing former Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher.

“Noel’s newest solo album “Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds”,has been getting a lot of positive attention” our source suggests.

We have been unable to corroborate this with any other media or insiders.

UPDATE: The rocker posted to his blog recently: “A ‘source’ says, ‘Nothing has been signed or made official’! Of course it fuckin’ hasn’t! Who is this fucking source? Has he been on the sauce’? Bizarre indeed.”

UK tabloids intro Naomie Harris as Moneypenny despite evidence to the contrary

At the London press conference yesterday 007 director Sam Mendes confirmed his principal cast, a large number of crew and commented on some of the stylistic elements of the film where possible.

One notable announcement that we thought would quell the rumors (we should have known better) was the announcement that Naomie Harris will play Eve, a field agent, and, we thought this meant she would not be Monypenny. Nonetheless, the Daily Mail have opted for the headline “Moneypenny 2011: First black actress to get role”. Clearly their staff do not believe the news from Harris’ own lips.

“She will play Miss Moneypenny in the new James Bond movie,” they go on to say.

The Daily Mail has learned that her portrayal of the character is likely to be very different from those of predecessors Samantha Bond, Caroline Bliss and Lois Maxwell. It has not been disclosed how Eve becomes Moneypenny.

So far we cannot know if “the plot will see her character become Bond’s foil, Moneypenny,” as the paper claims. This was not one of the details revealed in the conference.

Oddly enough, the journalist is Baz Bamigboye who correctly predicted Albert Finney’s casting. Even if it were to be Miss Eve Moneypenny, that she is in intensive training to play a field agent doesn’t quite stack up with the Moneypenny we know and love.

BBC optimistically claim James Bond 23′s “title to be announced” today

As all good Bond fans know we are are a matter of hours away from the first official news from the production team, producers, director and principle cast on the still untitled James Bond 23.

As journalists wake to the prospect of news, column inches (or rather website pages) are being filled with predictions.

Even the reliable BBC has a bold headline: “James Bond film title to be announced” with an opening paragraph that clears things up…

No, they do not have sufficient insider info: “The title and cast of the 23rd James Bond film is expected to be announced in London later”.

Tell us what you are most looking forward to hearing about Bond 23 in the comments. On the morning of the press conference at which the title is expected to be revealed the Bond23.net pollsters report that 47% of respondents think the rumored title, Skyfall, is above average.

Media suggests 007 is ‘definitely’ bound for Shanghai in Bond 23

On the eve of the James Bond 23 launch press conference, Time Out claim that 007 is definitely bound for the east.

In a semi-traditional round up of 10 things we know (or think we know) about James Bond 23 the media outlet claims that James Bond star Daniel Craig spoke to them earlier, suggesting that Istanbul and Shanghai are “definitely” on the shooting schedule.

At Bond23.net we are struggling to track down the original interview, but we will persist!

Rumor suggests Albert Finney will play “M”

Although Judi Dench has previously made mutterings that she will be returning for her 7th James Bond outing, some reports claim that Finney will be playing 007′s famous boss in the new James Bond film, to be official announced on Thursday.

According to the original report, the famed British actor will play a “Foreign Office mandarin with powers over the Secret Intelligence Service”.

We at Bond23.net are not entirely sure where Examiner.com get their claims that it was today “announced that Albert Finney will join the cast as ‘M’”.

Albert Finney could be joining Bond 23 cast

Baz Bamigboye over at the Daily Mail claims to have the scoop on a surprise that director Sam Mendes sprung on his cast at a rehearsal for the new James Bond film this week.

According to the report, 75 year old Albert Finney has been cast in Bond 23 – to be formally unveiled next week. An insider apparently told Bamigboye that…

It was one of those fabulous “This can’t get any better!” moments because Mendes has upped the game by bringing in  Bardem and Fiennes — and they’ve already got Dame Judi Dench.

So you think, well, who else can they get to make this any classier?

Also rumored in the article is news that John Logan might have been asked by Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, producers of the Bond films, to at least one other 007 screenplay.

Leave your comments as to what kind of role Finney would be suitable… villain, ally (someone inside MI6 or a foreign contact), etc?

Sam Mendes aiming James Bond 23 for the Oscars?

According to a report in British paper the Express today, Mendes is making last minute changes to the script to ramp the drama and tone down the action sequences.

A typical unnamed insider suggests that the creative team for Bond 23 are setting their sights on an Oscar nod.

The news plays on a number of facts we already know about Bond 23:

Insiders maintain that “action scenes in India have all been axed” though scenes in Istanbul and Duntrune Castle in Argyll “are still there for the moment”.

It is relatively common knowledge to bloggers and news wires that location shooting in India was formally canned earlier this year but many still suspect it will be replaced with an equally important international location, such as South Africa.

One surprising comment comes on the budget: “Given that this 007 needs to make at least £300million to break even, it may be a very high price to pay for an Oscar nomination.”

So far as we know, Bond 23 will have a smaller budget than Quantum of Solace which did not make that £300m mark. Here at Bond23.net we would be very surprised if the figure was at all accurate.

Compared with the quantity of action featured in Quantum, some fans may welcome a thinking man’s James Bond?

James Bond in a Range Rover Evoque for Bond 23?

MSN Cars claims to have a tip off that brand new Range Rover Evoque was delivered to Pinewood Studios – where most of the internet now knows Bond 23 is in pre-production.

The sleek new all-roader is made by Land Rover, who declined to comment when quizzed by MSN.

This news aligns with the rumor we heard earlier in the month that the first location shoot for Bond 23 will involve a Jaguar and a Rover in a high octane scene. Both Range Rover and Jaguar are owned by Tata Motors.
